C&C currently has two servers that provide tools for email help: qna-help.cac and qna-dev.cac. The initial idea was that production tools would be located on qna-help, while development would reside on qna-dev.
As it currently stands, this method is not terribly well implemented. In part there are several production tools being used by Client Services consultants on the qna-dev server only.
My primary motivation is that we currently have production tools running on a development server. This results in important tools which can become unavaialble with very little notice.
There is also a fairly high turnover rate in the student staff who create and maintain some of these tools. The fact that there is no centralized location for backups and code storage creates a haphazard situation when project responsibility is shifted.
Also, the foremost tool which resides on these servers is the QnA Help Email system. The other tools, Router's Reference and FaqMan, are all geared towards organizing and helping the use of this system. If they were running on the same server in an organized fashion, QnA may be able to use some of the information held within them to facilitate it's decision making.
I hope to move us back towards the initial method to promote reliablity, security, and clarity in the email help system and the tools that serve it. My specific goals are:
